Apparently there's an old wive's tale that it's bad luck to cut a baby's hair before their first birthday. As a result, Matthew had hair hanging over his ears in all his birthday pictures, but on the upside should enjoy a lifetime of good luck ;) With the birthday under our belt and my mom's blessing, we headed to Snip-Its today for Matthew's first haircut. Snip-Its is a very cool, kids only hair salon. There were colorful gadgets, toys, and characters everywhere, cartoons on a tv at each workstation to distract the kid, lollipops galore, and a card to pop in this Peewee's Playhouse type machine at the very end to get a prize. It was all really cool, and I couldn't help but think how much times have changed since I had my first haircut. As cool as it was, I took mental notes and got the whole thing on video so that I can save my $17.99 plus tip next time and cut it myself :) Matthew cried quite a bit when the stylist put him in the chair... I think he thought he was getting shots (that's unfortunately still fresh in both our minds,) but after that, he did very well. There wasn't a lot of hair to cut, but the little she did seemed to make a big difference. I felt like I walked in with a toddler and out with a little boy.
