Numero Uno

Number one... today I'm pondering firsts.  First post on my first blog, my sister's first baby and my first blood-related niece, and my baby's first birthday just two short weeks from today.  How is it possible that he is already turning one?!  It seems like just a month ago we brought home our most perfect little newborn from the hospital.  While some days since then have seemed never-ending, resulting in a desperate plea for Daddy to come home from work early to relieve Mommy, overall the time has passed in a blink of an eye.  It's scary to think that one day not too long from now we will wake up and Matthew will be grown and out of the house, but it's also so exciting how fast he is growing and learning.  Each new milestone is a celebration, and I feel lucky to be his mama :)  He seems to pick things up so quickly these days.  Yesterday, he learned to shake his head "yes" while in the car on the way back from visiting Aunt Jenna in the hospital.  This follows many weeks of shaking his head "no."  Today he learned to crawl back down the stairs, which is key because we still haven't found a baby gate that works at the foot of our stairs!  Every day is something new it seems.  Our next project will be holding up one finger to signify his one year.  I did this in my first birthday picture, and I'm determined to make it happen.  I have two weeks... I think I can, I think I can...

In other firsts, Jenna delivered Evelyn "Evie" Ann Stirling on Wednesday night at 9:58 pm.  Though I haven't been able to meet her in person because she is still in the NICU, I've seen pictures, and she's beautiful.  Born at just 34.5 weeks, her lungs weren't fully mature, but she is making progress every day and will hopefully be home in another week or so.  I'm excited for Jenna and Chris and am looking forward to seeing the little person Evie will grow into.

I have wanted to create this blog for some time now, but I let my feeble writing skills hold me back for too long.  So, I decided to go for it, and I apologize ahead of time that my posts will probably not be clever or interesting... I just hope they provide a way for family and friends to keep up with our life and preserve memories for us.  Enjoy!
